About Rome, Ga.

Rome is the medical and educational hub of Northwest Georgia and a metropolitan statistical area in one of the nation's fastest growing states. Rome is just an hour north of Atlanta and a short drive from Chattanooga, Tenn., and Birmingham, Ala.

Rome is nestled in a picturesque valley in the foot hills of the Appalachian Mountains, where we enjoy four distinct seasons. The Oostanaula and the Etowah rivers flow through the city and meet in the heart of the historic downtown district to form the Coosa River.

There is ample opportunity to enjoy recreational activities with your family since Rome has numerous parks and recreational areas. Educational institutions include Berry College, Shorter College and Georgia Highlands College, as well as Coosa Valley Technical College. We are proud of our city and county elementary and secondary school system, and we are home to several parochial and private schools.

According to The Rating Guide to Life in America's Small Cities, Rome is the 12th most livable small city in the United States. We also are ranked first as the most desirable in health care, with more physicians, specialists and hospital beds per capita than any other small city in the United States. In addition, Floyd County offers a rich social life, abundant churches and many opportunities for community involvement.
